Question 2/28/10

I was always taught that tatoos and earings are against the bible, is that true?

In the Levitical law there are two scriptures in application to the priesthood.

Lev21:1* ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:…

5* They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

Understand that the context was those who did these things were involved in idolatrous worship, like the prophets of Baal who contended with Elijah.

The ear locks which you see on the orthodox jews today are a result of the refusal to cut the corners of the beard.

Lev 19:28* Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

If you were a slave in Israel you got an earring and represented that slavery.

We live in a cleansing flow of the blood as well as the spirit of grace, and whatever was done has been washed away. God will straighten these things out  in anyones life if need be. Enough said.
